Mr Milnes approached Eco Environments as he was very keen to generate his own electricity to become more environmentally friendly and to take advantage of the generous feed in tariffs.
Peter decided to install a 3.706kWp solar PV system, made up of 17 x 218w Hyundai Solar panels. We have estimated the system will produce around 2,841 kWh of electricity per year earning £1,230 per year in feed in tariffs at the 43.3p rate. He will save £235 per year of his electricity bills and earn an additional £35 through exporting electricity he does not use making a total income/ saving of £1,500 per year and an overall return on investment of 21.5%. This is based on assumptions of inflation of 4% and energy prices increasing by 6% per year. The system will be paid back in 8 years and will save 1545.5kgs of CO2 per year.
We caught up with Peter in April 2012, about 6 months after his installation, throughout the winter months, he has already generated 930kW of electricity. He told us that since having solar PV installed his electricity bills have reduced by 50-60%, he is now more aware of using white appliances more in the day.
“My system is great so far, as expected. It has generated 930kW. The installation process was excellent, I am very happy with Eco Environments’ service.
“I’m very pleased with the appearance of the panels. They blend well with the slate roof and are quite unobtrusive. One of my concerns prior to installation was whether the panels would detract from the overall appearance of the house. The house itself isn’t exactly a chocolate box but the panels look fine to me!”
