Solar PV

What is Solar Power?

The sun is an amazing source of energy; some question the considerable benefits to be enjoyed from solar panels in the UK, purely because most people believe there isn't enough sun to generate sufficient energy. This is very far from the truth. Our climate is more than capable of producing a wealth of free renewable energy from solar pv.

A free onsite survey will help us ascertain the suitability of your property for a solar panel installation. Then, a detailed consultation, taking full account of your particular needs and budget, will help us identify the kind of solar technology which will benefit you most. A detailed quote will be provided, including costs, outputs and payback predictions.

We offer some of the most efficient solar pv panels from Hyundai and Sanyo, with SMA invertors and K2 roof mounting systems. These well known manufacturers and our vast experience will give you peace of mind that you are investing in a high quality system that will last throughout the full 25 year feed in tariff life time.

Solar Panels

Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels actually generate electricity from solar power, this electricity is then used to power the electrical appliances in your home. As well as reducing your carbon footprint, underscoring your green credentials and contributing to the ongoing struggle to protect the Earth and its fragile ecology, photovoltaic solar panels will considerably reduce your energy bills and with the introduction of Feed in Tariffs (FIT's) in April 2010, generate a healthy income.

FIT's pay you for ALL the energy you generate, regardless of whether you use it or not. You also save money by not having to buy the amount of electricity you have produced, and you get an additional payment for the electricity that you export as a surplus to the National Grid, creating an effortless additional revenue stream. Typically a domestic installation will produce an income/saving of between £500-£800 per year, index linked, tax free and guaranteed for 25 years.

How solar works

1. The Solar PV array is installed in the best location to maximise the power output, for example in a residential installation on the roof. The PV modules are connected in series to generate a direct current (DC)

2. This direct current is converted to alternating current (AC) at grid rating by the inverter. Each kWp installed in the UK will generate, on average, 800kWh. This will vary depending on orientation and location

3. This AC generated by your PV system is connected into the main distribution box for the building. Here it is used the same as the electricity that would have been drawn from the grid

4. In times when you are producing more than you are using, any excess is fed back to the grid while in times of excess demand, this is topped up by drawing from the grid

Which Solar Panels?

As well as traditional solar panels, used largely for retrofit applications, we are also able to specify and install a range of Solar Roof Tiles (both Solar PV and Solar Thermal) that best suit a new build, or new extention being built as they replace the actual roof tiles. These fit seemlessly onto your roof. Another option is to integrate panels flush into your roof. We can provide you with the system and type of tile or panel system that best suits your budget and requirements.

The video below demonstrates how solar panels are attached to your roof using K2 Mounting Systems. K2 Systems are a leading manufacturer and our main supplier of roof mounting systems.
